City Intro

History & Culture: Jiujiang is located in Jiangxi Province and is known for destinations such as Hanpokou. Jiujiang, where the Yangtze meets Poyang Lake, became a major Yangtze trading port after it opened to foreign trade in 1861; Lushan's villas and academies flourished alongside. Jiujiang lies in Jiangxi Province and has formed a distinctive urban memory through regional history and cultural exchange. From ancient settlements to the modern city, city walls, lanes, temples and guild halls record historical layers from different periods. Today museums, historic districts and local festivals still make the city's historical thread legible. The city's history is written not only in sites and museums but also in dialect, food, festivals and the details of daily life. In modern times, transport construction, industrial development and urban renewal have added new layers.

Geography: The core landscapes of Jiujiang include Hanpokou, Sandiequan, Meilu and Huajing. Jiujiang is located in Jiangxi Province, where landforms, rivers and climate together shape the city's spatial pattern. Best March–May and September–November; Lushan is a summer escape and has rime ice in winter. Natural and cultural landscapes within the area are fairly concentrated, suitable for arranging one- or two-day itineraries by area. Light, vegetation and water levels change with the seasons and alter how the landscape looks, so check the weather and scenic-area notices before setting out. Transport within the area is mainly by road and rail, and the main sights can be linked from the city or county town. In mountain areas pay attention to altitude and changing weather; in river valleys and lake areas pay attention to water levels and the flood season.

Highlights: When visiting Jiujiang, focus on Hanpokou, Sandiequan and Meilu. Core sights include Hanpokou, Sandiequan, Meilu and Huajing. These sights cover different facets such as history, nature and city life, and can be combined freely according to interest. It is recommended to link the core sights with nearby streets, museums or food streets for a half-day to full-day itinerary. If time allows, slow down and leave time for walking and rest for a fuller experience. First-time visitors can start with the most representative core sights, then add museums, old streets or natural scenic areas as time permits. Local food is also part of the itinerary; it is worth reserving mealtime for time-honoured restaurants or local markets.

Food Culture: Representative local foods include Lushan stone frog, Lushan stone fish, Lushan stone ear and Jiujiang tea cake.
